The words, without the pictures

To my son, Jack Titus. You truly are super!

The boy began to open his present, a great gift from his mother. He opened it fast with the help of his brothers. They gripped the wrapping as it ripped and stripped, excited to see what the boy would get.

Thrilled and thankful to find what was inside: a superhero suit with FOUR special things, all black, gold, and white. Each thing was special, each thing he really liked.

A mask that cast a light from the eyes. A shield to wield at just the right size. A cape that draped at the perfect height. And super speed shoes fast enough to fly.

Within the wrapping was also a note, a short little note where his sweet mother wrote, "With or without this suit, you are good and you are strong. You are super, my son. I love you!" - Mom

Quickly, he donned it all on and felt a bit taller, for his friends were coming soon, along with his father. Knock! Knock! A knock at the door, his friends had arrived! Right on time, a quarter after five. He greeted each friend with a warmhearted squeeze. A big hug, all three gave and received.

Stellar, Saige, and Charlee were their names. They joined the boy and his brothers, Rocco and Cannon Crain, playing all kinds of great games. They raced each other, chased each other, and they played, they played and they played. The boy's joy could hardly be contained, all while in his super suit he stayed.

The party paraded their way outside since for a bit, it was still bright. They set up goalposts made with their shoes. They began to play soccer, and the boy had to choose.

His super speed shoes, leave them or keep them? If he chose to keep, he could hurt their bare feet. He could kick a shin, he could nick some skin, he was convinced. He loved his super shoes, but much so more his friends. Just then, his super speed shoes that were black gold and white were kindly set away, off to the side.

Oh joy! The boy made a great choice.

It was quiet, too quiet. The boy swiveled his head, searching for Saige who seemed to have left. Splash! The water balloon smashed! It splashed all over Stellar's shirt. She was soaked. It was funny to Saige, but to Stellar, not so. She was cold cold cold cold.

The boy knew exactly what to do. Super-fast, he came to her rescue. He gave his cape to make her snug. It was perfectly enough to wrap her up. The boy made her warm with his cape and his hug.

Oh joy! The boy made a great choice.

Charlee and Rocco found a frisbee to throw. They jumped and they dove. They caught high. They caught low. The boy joined in. They'd catch and they'd send, till one of them launched it way over the fence.

"Oh no!" said his friends in suspense. The frisbee was lost, too far to go get. The boy was concerned by the frown of his friends. He looked down with an idea of how to fix this. Whang! He sent his shield with a spinning toss. Their fun with a frisbee was not lost. The day was saved, the moment was healed, by the boy sharing his shield that he kindly chose to no longer wield.

Oh joy! The boy made a great choice.

Six on the dot, the boy's dad had arrived! They wrestled together and laughed for some time. The sun began to set and yet, the party was not over. The best was yet to come. The dance party had just begun. Yes!

The boy and his friends, they sang and they danced. They snapped, clapped, jumped, and fist pumped to their favorite songs as the music thump thumped. And as the beats bumped the boy noticed his brother. He was looking in the dark for some toy or another.

He checked and Cannon was in a bit of a fright, his favorite toy had gone missing, gone out of sight. He struggled to find it. It was dark that night. In order to find it, he needed a light.

The boy took his shining mask, handed it to his brother, and helped him look for his "some toy or another." The boy searched till they found it and they came back together. His brother was so thankful, he was feeling much better.

Oh joy! The boy made a great choice. He gifted his mask, the final piece of his suit. Though, how now, could he be super? What could he do?

Then the sun had no more shine left to give, it was time to say goodnight to his friends. The boy's dad had heard how super he'd been. For a special bit it was just he and him, a sweet moment, it was just them.

"Son, I am so proud of you. Do you know why? Because you are super and because you are mine. You took off your shoes to be good to your friends. You used your cape to protect one of them. You shared your shield to help them have fun. And, you gifted your mask to give light to someone."

"My son, you are super, I love you! ...so so so so so so so so much!"
